Using midi-relay to send MIDI feedback to Companion for control

I was recently hired to add a new feature to my midi-relay software that allows you to capture MIDI data coming on any MIDI port and send that data back to Bitfocus Companion where you can then store it as a variable or even use the MIDI data as a satellite surface to control buttons directly.

Here’s a video walkthrough:

This should enable a lot of fun things with MIDI and automation!

You can download the software from my Github page: https://github.com/josephdadams/midi-relay/releases/tag/v3.2.0

It’s free so go check it out. If the things I create are helpful to you, a donation to my family is always appreciated: https://techministry.blog/about/

  1. hi I have an idea that I’d like to explore but I am not sure if it is possible. We use a main instance of Companion running in our tech booth, but I’d like to run a Companion Satellite instance on a Raspberry Pi from the stage for the purpose of using a USB midi foot pedal (plugged into the RPi) to “press buttons” on the main instance of Companion. Is this possible with satellite or do I need to run a second full Companion instance from the stage? Thanks for your helpful work!

    1. Companion Satellite itself does not do any MIDI communication. So you would need to use something else if you really want to use a USB MIDI foot pedal. Or you could just get the Streamdeck foot pedal…
